How to use your calendar

- Choose a pattern and check the displayed A/B night sequence against your agreement. Editing the sequence selects Custom.
- Enter the first night of that sequence and the year to show.
- Set parent names, colours and the agreed local handover time.
- Check representative dates, then save, share, print or download each parent's calendar. Share links include the names entered.

The 2-2-3 pattern repeats over 14 nights, as shown above. Each complete cycle gives seven nights to each parent. The calendar advances one position per calendar day and leaves dates before the start blank.
Other named presets are explicitly defined arrangements, not universal rules or recommendations: 2-2-5-5 uses A 2, B 2, A 5, B 5; 3-4-4-3 uses A 3, B 4, A 4, B 3; 5-2-2-5 uses A 5, B 2, A 2, B 5. Alternating weeks gives A seven nights and B seven nights. Every other weekend assumes a Monday start with B's Friday and Saturday nights in the first week. Check the displayed sequence, or enter your own.
A date identifies the parent responsible for that night's stay. The handover time sets the start and finish of a block in the calendar export; it does not change the night count. Counts and percentages cover scheduled nights in the chosen year, excluding blank dates. A partial year can differ from the full-cycle percentage.
Each parent's calendar file contains continuous timed events from the first handover in their block to the next handover. Events crossing New Year retain their actual handover dates. Times are floating local clock times, so your calendar app uses its local time zone. Confirm both parents' calendar settings when travelling.
This repeating calendar does not apply court orders, school holidays, special-day overrides or changes agreed later. It does not decide which schedule is suitable for a child or calculate a legal entitlement.
Worked example
For 2-2-3 starting Monday, 4 January 2027, with A first:
- Saturday, 16 January 2027 belongs to parent B.
- The first 14 scheduled nights, 4 to 17 January, give seven nights to each parent: 50% each.
- The first three days of January stay blank. Annual percentages use the remaining scheduled nights rather than assuming the whole year is covered.
Common questions
What is a 2-2-3 custody schedule?
One parent has two nights, the other has two, and the first has three. The roles reverse in the second week. The displayed 14-night sequence gives seven nights to each parent.
Which schedule is best for young children?
This tool cannot determine what is best for a child. Discuss the child's needs, practical arrangements and applicable agreement with a family lawyer and other relevant professionals.
Can I add both parents to a phone calendar?
Download both parents in one calendar file, or download each parent separately. Import the combined file into one calendar, or use separate calendars for individual files so you can distinguish or remove them. Repeated imports can create duplicates in some apps.
Does this replace a parenting plan?
No. It illustrates a repeating overnight pattern. Your agreement or applicable order governs handovers, holidays and exceptions. Confirm changes with the other parent and seek advice from a family lawyer where needed.
Why are the year percentages not exactly 50%?
A year can contain incomplete cycles or blank dates before the start. The percentages use only nights assigned in that year. A complete 14-night 2-2-3 cycle is 50% each, but a partial year need not be.
